Bermuda National Trust Museum at the Globe Hotel

St. George's

The building that houses the Bermuda National Trust Museum was built in 1700 by the governor at that time, Samuel Day. It's a fine example of period architecture, and the museum houses artifacts and presentations revolving around Bermuda's role in the American Civil War. Before it served as a Civil War museum, or rather before the American Civil War even took place, it was the Globe Hotel for one hundred and fifty years. After serving as a grand hotel, a musuem was formed, called the Convederate Museum, which lasted until 1995. The town of St. George's was used as a port city for Confederate blockade runners.

You can learn all about St. George's role in American history by visiting the museum and viewing the photos and documents on display there. You can also watch the video entitled Bermuda, Centre of the Atlantic, as well as an exhibit entitled "Rogues and Runners". There's a scale model of the Confederate ship that served as a blockade runner, Fergus. It's a nice place to learn about Bermuda's history, while on vacation. the Bermuda National Trust Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4pm. There is an admission price, and the admission ticket is a combo ticket issued in conjunction with the Tucker House and Verdmont, which are both in Smith's Parish.
