Bermuda Weddings

It's a pretty safe bet to say that Bermuda is well-known around the world as the perfect honeymoon spot. What some people don't realize is that it's also a great place to have the wedding, too. It's about as romantic a place as you'll ever see, and you'll find all sorts of governmental and private services set up to help you tie the knot.

Public Weddings

If you want a public wedding, or civil ceremony, everything will be handled through Bermuda's governmental office called the Registrar General's Office. They even have a Marriage Room where you can have your civil ceremony. The Registrar General's Office can take care of your paperwork, and list your marriage in the local newspapers, which is required for a public ceremony. It's simply a factual description of the event, called Notice of Intended Marriage, and officially serves as notice so that anyone who objects can come forward. Anyone who does, has two weeks to speak up. Assuming that nobody does object, after the two-week waiting period you can get married. At this point you receive your marriage certificate and let the ceremony begin. Cost of going through the Registrar General's Office is between US$200 and $250, and if you want to use the Marriage Room for your civil ceremony, it and additional fee, of just under US$200.

Private Weddings

A private wedding on Bermuda can be as simple or as extravagant as you'd like, with prices ranging from do-able to second mortgage. There are a number of wedding consultants, or wedding planners who can arrange almost anything you dream up, for a fee. They can get you into a traditional church for your wedding, or find the perfect spot on the beach for you. Remember, Bermuda has kept intact much of its historical traditions, which means there are lots of bagpipers and horse-drawn carriage driversout there looking to make some extra cash, if you want an old world style ceremony. Whether it be a traditional ceremony in an old stone church followed by a country cottage reception featuring an Italian wedding cake, or a simple barefoot seaside ceremoney with self-written vows followed by a reception in a pastel casual chic resort under the stars, there's a wedding planner out there who will make it happen for you in Bermuda.
