Fort Saint Catherine
West End Area
Fort St. Catherine, like most island forts, is perched on top of a hill for optimal views of the surrounding water and the island below. This fort overlooks St. Catherine's Beach, which itself isn't unusual for an island fort. But St. Catherine's Beach has historical significance on the level of Plymouth Rock for citizens of the United States: George Somers crawled ashore here. Survivors from the shipwrecked Sea Venture landed on what is now called St. Catherine's Beach, on July 28, 1609.

This particular fort has been restored and is therefore more impressive than Fort Scaur. Cannons are still there to be seen, as are tunners and ramparts, drawbridge, moat, dioramas, and a little replica of the Crown Jewels of England thrown in for extra excitement. Check out the artillery display, too. The Fort is open Daily from 10am to 4:30pm and admission to the museum-fort is $5. To get there, head out of the town of St. George on Sapper Lane and continue on to Victoria Rd. It's about one mile morth of town.
