National Arches

Smith's Parish

Smith's Parish is the smallest of Bermuda's parishes, but it is the home of one of the hidden attractions of Bermuda: the National Arches. In fact, Smith's Parish is all about nature, since after all it contains Bermuda's largest nature reserve as well as Bermuda's highest point (we can't really say peak here...it's only 259 feet high). The National Arches are

not carved by humans, but by nature, over centuries and centuries of teamwork by the ocean and the wind. There are two limestone arches rising up from the beach, and they're thirty five feet high, quite impressive when you get right up close to them. The make for excellent photography subjects. When you're in Smith's Parish, look for signs to Castle Harbour Beach. The National Arches are on the beach, near the end of a road called South Shore Road.
