The West End

Farms & Forts

The West End is really just another name for Sandys Parish, which is the westernmost parish in Bermuda. The West End is made up of five islands which are interconnected by bridges. Bermuda's farmland is here in Sandys Parish, as are some of the most impressive and important military installations. The hub of the West End is Somerset Village, named after George Somers, captain of the famous shipwrecked crew who first stumbled on Bermuda from Britain. You'll find

nature trails and woodlands, along with the Royal Naval Dockyard, bustling with energy and shops and restaurants. The Royal Navy ended its presence in Bermuda over ten years ago now, when in 1995 it closed its base on the West End's Ireland Island North, called the HMS Malaboar naval base.
